Puff is about 4 years old and 55 lbs. He’s a loving husky with a lot of great qualities and the potential to acquire more with his people.
He is very smart and able to learn. He’s eager to be involved in the wide world and gain more experiences.
He would do well with a large family or group. He would likely do well with another dog in the house. Unknown about cats. He leaves other pets in cages alone.
He hangs out, knows where he can and can’t go. Loves attention with petting, grooming, massages. Loves puzzles, and training with treats. He loves to play tug of war when he's in a playful mood. He might do more if offered. (He will bring the rope back when you let go to continue playing.)
Doesn’t seem to run out doors. He also will head back to the house when he is done outside. Exceptionally good ability to hold his poop and pee. Never had an accident.
He’s very quiet. He hasn’t barked in the house. He’s done a few ahoos over the weeks when seeing one of his people come in from the garage, but not consistently. We can’t figure out how to get him to do it.
[He only seems to bark, more lately, at a park with particular dogs running behind a fence.]
Doesn’t get on furniture, nor the bed. Likes the floor.
Doesn't play with anything but what is given to him.
Doesn't bother the garbage can nor counter surf. Will place himself to wait while his people are in the kitchen, if you give him a spot.
Will put himself in a room for quiet time when no one is available to interact with him.
He is minimally interested in toys. He seems to use them to chew and will swallow parts if he can chew them off so soft toys are not good without watching them.
He will sometimes guard a toy/food item he has been chewing on and wants to continue to chew (even if not chewing at the moment), but sleeping (or eating/finishing) removes his guarding interest.
Sit, paw (both sides), stay, place (where he’s gotten treats or puzzles before), down when there is nothing else to do, though he’d rather give a paw, can catch treats in the air, balance on his back legs, working on heel (in the house where there are no distractions).
He seems to be fine when left in a crate. He goes in with a treat that can last, such as a small bully stick. Often he doesn’t chew it, but just hangs out. But, we’ve only had him in for a few hours and usually with people home.
He likes to greet new people when he’s not distracted with a new environment. Often he’ll meet them then move on.
He’s met children of all sizes and received treats from them. He has reacted to people jogging away from him (sees it as playing) and people on wheels, so more exposure to that would be necessary.
He needs more exposure to the outdoors. He’s very excitable the first 45 minutes (and until he’s eliminated), so he will pull strongly and be more reactive to things in his environment.
He likes to do a nose down tracking walk. He does hunt small creatures in bushes if he sees/hears them scurrying, but can “leave it”. Don’t know how he’d do with cats. He does leave our small cockatoo alone in her cage, but she’s not moving like a prey animal.
He doesn't cross back and forth on walks and usually will unwind his leash or go the proper way around an object so as to not tangle his leash.
He has agility and enjoys new surfaces. He is good about looking back to check in with us when going down or up paths needing care.
While walking he responds to wait and let’s go/come on. He may do better on a longer leash, in general. When on a 50ft lead he jogs ahead but then stops to sniff, so the short leashes don't give him the oppotunity to briefly jog ahead.
Very excitable, pulls. He wants to meet every dog. Unsure about his reaction to every dog. He seems to have a bit of selectivity especially with dogs that come barking at him. Mostly pays no attention to the littles though they seem to like to follow him. Can be reactive when they aggressively bark at him.
Needs more exposure. Could be good with another dog in the house. Might calm him down for meeting dogs outside of his house. Once he meets a dog, especially if it doesn’t want to play with it, he’ll ignore the dog. He is making good progress with our visits to dog parks.
He loves to be outdoors with his people or be exposed to new sights and sounds. (Haven’t found a sound he reacts to.)
He’s good in the car. Eagerly jumps in and rides well. Can wait to exit when door is open.
He’s learning to sit on his own to calm himself, but one can see his struggle as he's learning to slow down and keep his energy level under control.
